Travel Tales + Photo Dump β›΅

Hello helloooo!!!

I’ve been in Florida for a week, and I’m here to tell you about it!! *grabs journal for memory assistance*

Sunday – drove for an eternity. Read the Cinderella Plot by Pepper Basham in <three hours straight (FIVE STARS Y’ALL) and started The Beast of Ten by Beth Brower. I proceeded to amuse myself the rest of the week when I picked up my kindle and read of never-ending winter and a battle between dark and light whilst strolling about carefree in sunny, spring-ish Florida. More driving. Listened to Adventures in Odyssey and ate too many snacks. Finally arrived after dark so couldn’t see the ocean, but I could hear her.

Monday – did a very poor job applying sunscreen to myself and as a result ended up a tad crispy (it hurt *sobs*). Finally got to stick my feet in the ocean!! and also the rest of me!! and threw sand at my cousins!! THE OCEAN MY LOVEEE!! Played oversized jenga and didn’t lose…just kinda hung out *nod nod*

Tuesday – got up early to take a walk on the beach as the sun rose. Early rising?? not fun. Sunrise?? gorgeousss. Very worth it. Spent four hours on the beach and actually fell asleep at one point. My cousins turned my hole/sandcastle/moat/chair into my final resting place and buried me; I then had enough sand to build a sandcastle down my swimsuit and deposited it on our bathroom floor later 😬 We walked to a touristy store and I managed to spend a mere 45 cents *gasp* Everything there was highly overpriced *shakes head in disappointment* The older cousins took a nighttime exploration stroll to the twenty-fifth balcony and encountered a dragonfly and some interesting individuals.

Wednesday – took a frigid boat ride to an island. Now I love boat rides as much as the next gal, but it was too overcast to have that much wind and water thrown at me for a solid half hour. Fortunately, the expedition wasn’t in vain!! I left the island two sand dollars richer and was thus able to pay for fare back. This was the day I saw that lizard too. Tell me: is he cute or is he cute?? (there’s a right answer to this question)

Thursday – somehow got dragged into an oyster tasting. GUYS. I ATE A RAW SEA CREATURE. And it actually wasn’t that bad…I didn’t have to channel my inner Gollum to get it down (“gives it to us raw and wriggling!!” *gags*). Finished a book, lost my kindle, went to a shell shop and didn’t buy anything (why buy a shell if you can’t find it?? If you can’t find it on the beach, you can’t find it. Period. End of story.)

Friday – the BEST meals of the entire trip. Baked potatoes for lunch and smothered chicken and mushrooms and squash for dinner. I LOVE POTATOES AND I LOVE CHICKEN. HUZZAH FOR COMFORT FOODS. Took a “hike” lol; it was flat the entire way and paved a fourth of the way. Held a ladybug for my cousin until it was dry enough to fly away on its own. Walked past a karaoke session and was blown away by the angelic voice of the girl singing (it ain’t her first rodeo y’all). Had a sunset photo shoot and bid farewell to the ocean *sobs*

Saturday – DROVE FOREVER AND A DAY. Listened to a solid three or so hours of the Novacom Saga from Adventures in Odyssey, absently watched two movies, tried to nap, had Chik-fil-a for dinnerrrr (gotta get that Jesus chicken before Sunday hits and there’s a drought y’know), finished the Beast of Ten, texted the cousins who were simultaneously on their way home…

Coda

There you have it, the tales of vacation in some semblance of order. Boring to read? Perhaps. Amazing and wonderful and thrilling to live?? Absolutely. I love the ocean so much 😊

Always,

Ava 🌊🐚

  1. Avvvvaaa! That looks so fun!! And those sunset/sunrise photos = 😍😍😍😲
They’re gorgeous!! Sounds like you had SUCH a fun trip!!!
Also, the lizard! (Is he CUTE!)

    1. Aww, thanks so much!! It really was a blast; would highly recommend a random Florida trip in March. Not necessarily in Panama City, but y’know…

BUT YES THE LIZARD IS SO CUTE πŸ₯°πŸ₯° We actually saw two lizards in a ten-minute stretch of time and initially were like, aw how cute!! They must be friends!! Then my cousin casually mentioned that they’re actually cannibals and eat each other. *cue horror as larger lizard is approaching smaller lizard, who is now frozen* We extended his life by chasing off the big lizard *crosses fingers and hopes he’s still alive*

  2. Yes to the travel post, what a lovely trip! And that’s the cutest lizard I’ve ever seen 10/10.

    1. Thanks!! Wish you had been there to meet that exemplary specimen of lizard-dom with us πŸ₯°πŸ˜

  3. Such pretty pictures! I have yet to visit a real beach or even see the ocean.
The Novacom Saga is so much fun. I listened to it all the time when I was younger!

    1. Ohh, that’s so sad 😭 I met the ocean briefly when I was too small to visit it in California; went to Florida for my thirteenth birthday; and then went back in March!! It’s truly gorgeous and I hope you get to meet the ocean someday soon πŸ₯°

I adore the Novacom Saga, but it hurts me because MITCH MY LOVE *sobs into pillows* Mitch is literally the dream guy. I refuse to believe that he actually married someone else. The Novacom Saga is also such a time commitment; it’s over ten hours of audio 😬

  4. Aww, I loved reading this so much! The photos are all so beautiful (especially the sunrise and sunset onesβ€¦πŸ˜Š) and the lizard is so cute!!!
Also, I just read The Cinderella Plot and loved it! It was the sweetest!!!
Also, I love the sand dollars! Finding the little treasures along the shore is always a blessing!
Thank you for sharing this piece of your adventure with us, it was so lovely to read!πŸ’•

    1. Thanks so much Lola!! Most of my pictures were of people, so I couldn’t include some of my favorites (such as my brother apparently kissing an oyster πŸ‘€). I’m so glad everyone agrees with me about the lizard…I once called a lizard cute and my friend was like, ?!? Lizards aren’t cute!?

I loved the Cinderella Plot to pieces; it was SO GOOD. Besties-to-lovers is my absolute favorite trope and the way she kept friend-zoning him was driving me c r a z y. My siblings in the backseat of the car can attest to that XD

I hadn’t found a sand dollar before, so I was really excited to take two of them home!! So glad you enjoyed my chaotic travel post πŸ€πŸ˜‚

    1. Thanks so much!! I wish the lizards around here would show themselves to me…surely we’ve got more than frogs in the Midwest…

  5. Delightful post as always! Your Florida adventures sound so fun and I’m terribly impressed with your journal record keeping! Mine always goes into a slump when I’m away from home!
Adventures in Odessey is THE best for road trips!
Ahhh, indeed the Ocean is the best, I miss it dearly!!!
