Happy Easter, all!!

I come bearing good news for all you poetry-loving individuals out there. I’m not sure how many of you there are in this particular location (most of you are here for the bookish posts, I’m fairly certain), but at any rate, April is National Poetry Month. As such, I have the goal to write thirty poems in the thirty days of April.

“But Ava!!” you say. “It’s the fourth day of April!! Where are these poems?? Why haven’t you shared them with us?? Don’t you love us??”

Ah yes. Great question. The answer: Of course I still love you all!! Since maintaining one blog wasn’t enough for me, I’ve launched a Substack publication for my poems, thus keeping the bookish and the poetic semi-segregated. Y’all didn’t sign up for so many poems in one month, and I shall honor your subscriptions to my bookish blog with the utmost care.

My Substack subscribers from before the official launch, however, are not so fortunate. I’ve stopped emailing every poem to them though, merely publishing them within Substack in an attempt to not lose my fifty devoted subscribers over there from overstimulation or whatever *blows kisses at them* If any of you care to go investigate the ‘stack, here is the link: Irreversibly, Ava. There’s so many lovely peoples over there!! Highly recommend checking out all my friends 🥰

Anyway, for your viewing pleasure and in honor of Easter tomorrow, I entrust to your care yesterday’s poem of the day. ‘Twas inspired by the movie King of Kings (and I totally snurched the title mwehehe) by Angel Studios.

King of Kings

Their screams swirl around me
And pound through my head:
"Give us Barabbas!!
Kill Jesus instead!!"

With every word spoken
My heart splinters more;
Is this really the lot
That I came to die for?

Remember, I healed you!
I fed you my bread!
Did you harden your hearts
Against all that I said?

My children, I love you--
I'll die for you still;
I'll carry your cross
Up that Calvary hill.

I hang my head down
And submit to Your plan.
Oh Father, forgive them--
They don't understand.

Coda

I’m rather fond of that poem…despite its heavy topic and all. Maybe that’s why I like it. Not sure.

Anywayyy, will I see you on the ‘stack?? Anyone ready to write some poems with me?? Forth, poets!!

Always (or perhaps Irreversibly),

Ava 🪦🌅

  1. Your poem is so beautiful! Heartbreakingly so, but a stunningly true picture of that day. Thank you you for sharing it with us❤️

    1. Thank you so much, Lola!! I can’t even imagine being in his place that day. The people he came to save, the people he loved, yelling and screaming and killing him?? So painful 😭😭😭
