Today I have been tagged by Lizzie Hexam at Starlight and Saucepans for the (drumroll please) Music Tag!!

The intriguingly vague title of this tag amuses me for some reason.

Here Be the Rules:

  • Write ten songs that come on shuffle (no skipping) Well. No promises, folks, but I’ll try (In hindsight: I failed fantastically lol)
  • Write your favorite lyric from each song
  • Tag some people

For the purposes of this tag, I’ll be using my longest playlist, with ALL the tunes on it. 95 songs, about five hours worth of music. A lot of songs by the same artists, as you’re about to see *smirks* I actually haven’t listened to this playlist in a really long time (I’ve just been using my liked songs as my go-to playlist of late) so this will be exciting.

Here we gooo!!!

Control (for King and Country)

You asked me to let go, but I thought I knew better
Afraid of surrender and what I don’t know
I’ve always had a plan, but now I’m so weary
And I can’t see clearly, forgot who I am

I give up control, oh, oh, whoa
Body, mind, and soul, oh, oh, whoa
Can’t do this on my own, no, no
I give up control

(I love these guys so much)

Terribly relatable. I want to drive my life, thank you. Clearly I need to let go bc I don’t know what I’m doing. Fortunately for me, God does. *heaves sigh of relief*

The Meaning of Life (Josiah Queen)

I don’t wanna live just to die
And miss the meaning of this life
I’ve searched the world low and high
It left me numb with empty eyes
Meaningless, so meaningless, this life is without You
I don’t wanna live just to die
And miss the meaning of this life, of this life

Yes I just used the entire chorus from that song. Don’t judge. IT’S ALL TRUE, OKAY?? JOSIAH BE SPITTING SOME TRUTH OVER HERE.

Plant Life (Owl City)

I’d rather waltz than just walk through the forest
The trees keep the tempo and they sway in time
A quartet of crickets chimes in for the chorus
If I were to pluck on your heartstrings, would you strum on mine?

Oh look!! Ava does listen to some music that isn’t explicitly Christian!! Will wonders never cease…

Joking aside, I love the whimsy Adam Young brings to his songs. I adore Owl City. Wouldn’t you rather waltz than just walk through the forest?? While the trees and crickets join you in your dance through life??

Can’t Lose (Jordan Feliz)

My God can’t lose
Win, win, win, and it’s nothing new
Never been a mountain that He can’t move
He’s undefeated, best believe it

YES PREACH IT JORDAN. This song is such a vibe. Very peppy.

The Call (Regina Spektor)

Pick a star on the dark horizon
And follow the light
You’ll come back
When it’s over
No need to say goodbye

NARNIAAAA!!!

And another non-Christian song. Wild. This one’s only here because it plays at the end of Prince Caspian (my favorite Narnia movie 🥰) and is so terribly beautiful and…Narnian.

Campfire (That Very Love) (TobyMac)

Well, you been knocked down
‘Til you can’t find the sun
And we been prayin’
For God to change His mind
I have seen Him give and take
And we don’t know what He’ll do
But even if that mountain doesn’t move
God’s already made a way for you

Somehow the antithesis of Can’t Lose, but also very complementary to it. Don’t ask how that works.

Watch Your Mouth (Josiah Queen)

“Watch your mouth boy, don’t you talk like that
The holes inside my hands show you have all my love (ooh-ooh)
You’re my child, the apple of my eye
The holes inside my side show you have all my love (ooh-ooh)
So why would you live life like you weren’t worth me dying for?”

Yes, more Josiah Queen. See this post for more thoughts on him.

THIS SONG IS GOLD THOUGH. In all honesty, if you haven’t heard it, go listen to it right this very instant. I’ll wait for you right here.

This Changes Everything (Brandon Heath)

Now I’m stepping into a new reality
Letting go of the lies that I believed
Getting used to the way You look at me
This changes everything
Waking up as I wipe the tears away
Running wild like a child who’s unafraid
And I can’t hold back just gotta say
This changes everything

This song is so fun. And it’s got a great theme too 😉

Another World (Jordan Feliz)

There will always be a longing
That we just can’t satisfy
As long as we’re still under Heaven
It’s like we’re living half a life
It’s like my soul’s already missing
A place I’ve never seen or heard
And the only explanation must be
Must be

I’m from another world
Another world

Somehow the lyrics and melody and instrumentation of this song perfectly encapsulate the desperate longing for another world.

idk (Alison Eide)

Stop! Why you freakin’ out?
Don’t you know He only wins?
Check the stats again
He won’t let you down
There’s no room for debate
Yeah, even demons know their fate
So, tell me, what are you scared of?
I don’t know

Isn’t that a great reminder?? Stop freaking out, Ava. You may not have it under control, but God does and that’s way better.

Coda

Yeah I totally cheated with a lot of these. WHY DO I HAVE SO MANY SONGS BY THE SAME ARTISTS ON THIS PLAYLIST??? WHY CAN’T THE GOOD ONESTM THAT SHOW I HAVE TASTE COME WHEN I NEED THEM????

Also sometimes it’s not necessarily the words themselves that are why I have a song on my playlist. It’s the ✨vibes✨, people.

On to le tags:

(who have I tagged recently?? who has already done this?? who even wants to do this?? AAAAAHHHHHH)

Journey Bloomfield

Bella

Shekinah

Victoria and Isabelle

And anyone else who wants to be tagged: *insert your name here*

And that, my friends, is that. *bows and exits stage*

Always,

Ava 🎤

  1. *Grins madly* Not only have I been tagged again, (thank you!!!) but also: YOU LIKE OWL CITY!!!!! YEEHAW! I knew you seemed the type. I KNEW it!! *Cheers* Adam Young is simply Delightful. He seems such a nice fellow. AND HIS MUSIC!! Some of those lyrics. . . *Reflects deeply off into space*
Anyhow, I shall do this eventually, though most of my music is instrumental, which may prove a challenge. . . And also I may be forced to tip the stakes, as some of the songs I have I really don’t like all that much, or I only keep around because they’re nice to write to. But I did see this and think ‘wouldn’t this be fun. Alas probably no one shall tag me. Ah well.’ And lo and behold, here we are.

    1. I was on a hunt for new music, and ofc turned to those who featured on TobyMac’s tracks (he does us all a favor by identifying them every single time). I immensely enjoyed Light of Christmas, so investigated Owl City. I requested several albums from the library and the rest is history. I think I like All Things Bright and Beautiful best, your thoughts?? 🎶Reality is a lovely place, but I wouldn’t wanna live there…🎶

Tweak the tag however you wish (oh how generous I am with other people’s tags), fill it entirely with Owl City for all I care. Perhaps just take your favorite lyrics from your favorite songs, regardless of shuffle?? *shrugs* You’re resourceful.

I have been in that exact same tagging boat, only I was fairly certain I wouldn’t be tagged since I didn’t meet tagging requirements (not quite an author). And lo and behold, you tagged me anyway (I have yet to do that, haven’t I…I better get on that…)!! Huzzah for tags!!

      1. Ahhh yes. 🎵If we dissolved without a trace, would the Real World even care?🎶 Tis one of my favorites. He did a song with Lindsey Stirling too, which I was pleased about. I do love it when two artists I like come together to make something grand. My most favorite song of his is probably Lucid Dreams. 🎶I am a light sleeper, but I am a heavy dreamer🎵 The thing I love most about Owl City lyrics, I think, is that they often make no sense at all until suddenly one day it hits you, (ooooh, THAT’S what this song is about!) and then everything makes sense.

You are indeed generous. I shall mangle it with great abandon! Perhaps I shall just make a new playlist and shuffle that one. Why thank you. I sort of like to think. . . To hope so. (Comments need italics and strikethrough, wouldn’t you agree?)

Oh yes. It would be a shame if I broke the rules and was nearly sued all for naught. But no rush. As long as it happens eventually! You now also have full permission to use characters from Emma as well. Huzzah for tags indeed!! The fact that I actually GET tagged for things now makes me most pleased.

    1. Yes!! She’s got some really relatable music, despite the fact that I’m not an athlete and that’s kind of her thing 😂 My friend recommended Light Inside You to me a few months ago, and I’m so glad. As for TobyMac, he’s just…the original. He’s done so much. A lot of his recent songs have such an ache for Heaven ❤️

  2. WHY DO I KEEP FINDING THESE TAGS I WANNA DO!!! 😭 Tis an eternal curse I tell thee…. (sighs) I adore music! I’m listening to music… probably 3/4 of the day lol. (Or playing music on my tin whistle and ukulele which *sniffs* is back home in China and I couldn’t bring it on vacation!!! Tis agony to be separated with one’s instrument. At least I have my tin whistle?)

And I LOVE Watch Your Mouth by Josiah Queen! (His music is fantastic!!) Do you know his song Dusty Bibles? and also OH MY GOSH i love The Call by Regina Spektor!!!!! It’s one of those songs that describes the Enchantria series perfectly. And yes, Narnia is simply one of the best book series ever!

    1. Well there you have it!! I would have officially tagged you here in the comments, but Journey has taken that responsibility. I salute thee, Journey!! I actually have several tags I have snurched from other bloggers that are merely waiting in my drafts. I am an unashamed stealer of tags, I must admit.

😂 Alas. I am pretty much always in the vicinity of my instrument, our piano. It’s not very portable; one of these days I must learn to play the guitar.

YES WATCH YOUR MOUTH IS SO GOOD. I of course know Dusty Bibles!! Josiah Queen is one of my most favorite artists. Apparently he has a song EXCLUSIVELY on Amazon music. I am outraged. The Call is an absolute gem and a delightful piece of music and I’m so glad it decided to pop up on my shuffle 😊

      1. XD Indeed!! I look forward to seeing Journey’s post and doing this tag!!! And bahahaha, this is absolutely wondrous to hear!!! (That you are unashamed stealer of tags) I… will mainly just lurk around in the comments with pleading eyes waiting for someone to tag me. 🤣 (For some reason I feel so weird doing a tag without being… well, tagged!)

And (gasp) you play the piano???? I love the piano!!! I’ve never played it (I had an electric one as a kid, but it broke), but I’ve always wanted to!! How long have you been playing, if you don’t mind me asking? (ANd do you have a favorite song to play on it??) I love the guitar as well!!! I actually wanted to get a guitar when I was little… but, see, my mom didn’t know there was a difference between a ukulele and a guitar. And so she bought a ukulele instead, thinking it was smaller and I’d like it better.

Little me was most irritated to find a ukulele instead of a guitar. XD

(Hey, I mean, after like five years, I now have the patience to learn an instrument, so I can play a few songs on it now!!!! And I guess some chords on the ukulele are easier than guitar since, well… it has four strings instead of six.)

AND WAIT WHAT NO!!!!! EXCLUSIVELY on Amazon music?????????????????????? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! I only have Spotify! And YouTube!!! (Not YouTube music).

        1. I feel weird commenting on them and being like, but no tag for me?? Because it’s ridiculously hard to remember who has already been tagged and who might want to be tagged and I totally get it. Just outright stealing them is a solution….though I have a moral objection to stealing the Sunshine Blogger.

Why yes, yes I do. *bows* I’ve been taking official lessons for maybe over four years now?? But my dad gave me lessons off and on before that, when he had time. I’m about to finish the lesson books I’ve been working through and graduate the program!! Yay!! I really like Fur Elise, and a couple years ago I learned You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story and that’s a LOT of fun. Your guitar/ukulele story is so funny and so tragic 😂 That sounds like something my own mother might have done…my older brother and dad both play the guitar, so I simply must get one of them to teach me. Or there’s always YouTube, if I’m desperate. I used to play the ukulele (until my little brother sat on it 😬).

I KNOWWWWW!!! I’M SO DESPERATE!!! I CAN GET ACCESS TO THE CHORDS, DO YOU THINK I COULD FIGURE OUT THE MELODY FROM THE CHORDS AND LYRICS???

And yeah same for the music platform thing. Who has money for upgrades and nonsense.

      2. Yes!!!!!! Presicely!!! T.T Hmm maybe I should just resort to stealing tags now…….. (rubs hands together villainously)

Oooh, that’s cool!!! And I know Fur Elise! (lol who doesn’t??) I believe my cousin and aunt back in another city in China have a piano…. Lol I was thinking of tagging along with my mom (if she does visit them) just to play the piano. XDDDD (Assuming the thing’s tuned….. I don’t know if anyone has played it in a very long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I would not trust meself to tune a piano…)

AND WHAT NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sat on it???????????????? As a ukulele player, this breaks my heart. 😭😭😭

Oooh maybe!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now you have got me intrigued….. You could also try to find a guitar/ukulele tutorial for it???????????? And then you’d be able to hear it… (Oh but if there isn’t one… *SOB*)

        1. lol have at it. It’s a fun pastime, and the majority of bloggers do it. The rules that go with tags are only there to be broken, it seems.

Hey, that’s a plan. I always end up playing the piano at my grandparents’ house since there’s not much else to do, other than waste time on pinterest or whatever on the phone…I wouldn’t trust myself to tune a piano either 😬

*checks YouTube to see if anyone has pirated the song yet* *comes up empty* *sobs* What upstanding individuals the citizens of this world are…if he doesn’t release that song on Spotify I shall cry. I’m not sure I can think enough like Josiah to figure out the melody. ALAS.

  3. Thanks for tagging us! Looks fun! (And hard 😂😭) fK&C are so good! Control is a great song by them. And “Another World” by Jordan Feliz is good too! It reminds me of the C.S. Lewis quote “If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”

    1. A pleasure *bows* I have confidence in you, you’ll make it through. I adore for King and Country and got to see them in concert last year. IT WAS THE BEST THING EVER AND I HAVE BEEN RUINED FOR ALL OTHER CONCERTS FOREVER. I wouldn’t have chosen Control (maybe Long Live or World on Fire or Ceasefire), but it is what it is. Another World reminds me of that quote too!!! Maybe that’s part of why I like it so much. Can’t go wrong with C.S. Lewis, am I right??

  4. Thank you so much, Ava, for the fun tag!! I love music, so this look exciting!! I loved all the songs you chose! I love control by For King and Country!

    1. ‘Tis truly my pleasure. I struggle with tagging sometimes. Alas. for King and Country is amazing and I look forward to many more new songs now that they’ve released World on Fire. And also apparently they have a documentary releasing soon?? I NEED.

      1. I struggle with that too.:) Yess and what!!!??? I didn’t know that!! I just went to Google when it’s to come out and stuff and I am jumping up and down in my thoughts rn!

  5. Prince Caspian is your favorite Narnia movie??? I loved them all but that one has both the best scenes and the worst for me 😁

Definitely gonna have to listen to more music because I know/know of most of these artists, but not the songs. 🤷‍♀️

  6. Thank you so much for doing the tag, Ava! ‘Twas lovely to see your answers, though to my shame I don’t think I know a single one of these songs (though I probably heard at least parts of The Call at some point, since I have watched Prince Caspian). But that just gives me a lot of new music to listen to! 😀

    1. How could you not, my friend, how could you not. It’s got such an abrupt start that I never expected on first listening to it, but it’s such a vibe!! Great lyrics, great instrumentation, great voice…love Josiah Queen 🥰

  7. Ok… idk is iconic. I think it’s one of those songs Christians (girls especially) will be singing for a long time after we have our own grandkids. XD I mean, it’ll have to end up in a hymnal someday, right? (jkjk 😂)

    1. Right?? I also really like Still Afraid. It’s so…real. GUYS I’M NOT PERFECT I CAN’T DO THIS WHO LET ME PRETEND TO ADULT.

We should really make a Gen Z/Gen Alpha hymnal though. That would be epic.
