Whew, hey guys!!
Here I sit, on fall break at long last, finishing up my September post for you all (please ignore the fact that we’re nearly two weeks into October at this point 🤫). It’s been a wild month. Settling further into a college routine, figuring out the best times to do laundry, trying not to miss home too much…life is different these days, but that doesn’t make it bad. I hope life has been going well for you all!!
At any rate, let’s get down to business.
*faint strains of Disney music play in the background* (if you get the reference, you get thirty brownie points. please don’t spend them all in one place because that’s not very frugal or responsible)
Important Happenings
- so many classes and homeworks. so. many.
- one of these classes was math for liberal arts, in which we struggled through an entire unit on finance. So many formulas; I regret to inform you that I did not successfully keep them all straight.
- decided that singing in the stairwell was something that definitely needed to be made a weekly occurrence.
- my floor almost won a dodgeball competition!! we unfortunately ended up in second, but we had a pizza and pickle party anyway.
- received far more mail than I would have ever hoped to get at home.
- ended up in mass choral practice somehow?!? we’re all singing on the stage for a really big homecoming concert?!? help.
- hijacked my neighbors’ whiteboard and wrote my own questions on it (we were promised a new question every day and they did not deliver)
- exploited the soft-serve machine in our cafeteria (when it worked, that is).
- discussed calvinism, credo and paedobaptism, and egalitarianism, amongst other controversies.
- MY BESTIE CAME TO VISIT ME AND WE HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME BUT THEN SHE LEFT AND I CRIED
- found a lost raccoon in the middle of campus
- took a late-night tour around campus in the rain (my inner eldest-daughter was rebelling against the notion, but what the squad wants, the squad does *shrugs*)
- also got absolutely drenched by the rain (what do you mean, it rained for an entire week?? I don’t have rain boots?? or a rain jacket?? and I had places to be?? what even)
- EMMA M LION VOLUME NINE I REPEAT EMMA M LION VOLUME NINE RED ALERT LITERAL RED ALERT
- I fed a squirrel an entire apple and he looked so happy 🙂
- went to Rock and Glow and it was insane; imagine a bunch of (basically) teenagers jumping around and singing along to music nobody can hear if they’re not wearing the headphones hehe
- caught a cold and acted really dramatic about it
- missed out on a wedding (like, I’ve been waiting for this wedding for over five years now and I don’t even get to be there?!? what is life), but got to see the recording so there’s that.
- was coerced into playacting as spiderman and clambering up a sheer wall.
- sadly neglected my journal (i’m sorry, Haddie!! please believe me 🥺)
- nearly cried over a movie about Wile E. Coyote (not on my bingo card for 2026)
- also just…cried. *sigh*
Listening To

- This Is the Last Song About You ~ Anson Seabra do I identify with this song? No. Is it very pretty?? Yes.
- bad taste ~ Freya Skye again, do I have anything in common with the narrative of this song? Absolutely not. Is it a vibe? Yes.
- the most beautiful colours ~ for King & Country GUYS FOR KING & COUNTRY RELEASED ANOTHER ALBUM I’VE BEEN SO HYPE FOR THIS FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR NOW AAAHHHHHH
- thank God ~ for King & Country no words needed. for King & Country is such a peak band aaahhhhhh
- Dreamboat ~ Ava Liv Mabry Ava opened for a few of the stops on Jenna Raine’s tour, so I just had to investigate her and honestly, she’s pretty cool. I played this song approximately eight times in one week.
- Mood Ring ~ Ava Liv Mabry more Ava Liv 💕
- Kick ~ Mōriah did you know that Mōriah is the wife of Joel Smallbone, of for King & Country fame? (she also was the singing voice of Vanna Banana in the Princess and the Pop Star. Don’t believe me? Look it up) I liked her earlier albums, but she switched gears and its taken a hot second for me to get back into her vibe.
- I See What You’re Saying ~ Jenna Raine aaaaaahhhhh Jenna Raine is my favorite artist ever 🥹🥹🥹 she’s releasing a deluxe album of Jeans, Boys and Jesus on the sixteenth with FOUR NEW SONGS and I’m so excitedddd
Reading

I finished a grand total of two books in September. Yes, I know, very sad. Weep with me. I’ve read a great deal of short stories and a handful of poetry though, if that counts for anything. School reading has taken priority, unfortunately. But Anne has been a splendid comfort read in the midst of unfamiliar territory!! I’m also currently rereading The Q (by Beth Brower) and The Fellowship of the Ring (if you don’t know who wrote Fellowship, I mourn the decline of humanity).
oh and aLSO!!! Goodreads has finally heard the cries of the people and has granted us not only increments of .5 with which to rate our books, but .25 as well!! Now I can properly rate the books that aren’t three stars, but also aren’t two. I’m overjoyed 🥳💃🎉

Substack Happenings
This month, I’ve decided to add a new section to my recap posts: the Substack Recap. Here you’ll be able to find a selection of my notes from the month, as well as any unique posts that I published over there instead of on here.

And here’s a poem I wrote the last Monday of September, but didn’t publish until October (it still counts toward September happenings, so it gets to join its friends over here). Click the image below, and it’ll take you to my poem 🙂

Coda
It’s been a busy month!! Again, I’m so glad to be on break and back among my own haunts and hollows. I know I have to go back soon enough, but I’m determined to enjoy my time at home. Life hasn’t been especially easy recently, but no one can take this from me.
Always,
Ava 💕

Wow! What a month!
I didn’t know calvinisim was considered a controversy. That is interesting considering many Baptists believe Calvinisim but do not associate their beliefs with it.
