Ava Read Another Peter Pan Book ~ Straight on ‘Til Morning

Hello, my friends. Allow me to tell you a story.

So there I was, messing around with my Goodreads account. I clicked on the “Home” button instead of “My Books”, and lo and behold, what should show up but books the people I’m following reviewed/read. One of these (very few) people is Sara Ella, author extraordinaire. As Goodreads would have me know, she just read and enjoyed Hannah Shoop’s Straight on till Morning.

Of course, my interest was piqued here. What’s this?? A Peter Pan book?? Approved by Sara Ella?? SIGN ME UP. But then, since it was published very recently, our library didn’t have it.

But then!! My mom currently has KindleUnlimited!! And it was available on said KindleUnlimited!! A miracle, to be sure.

I read it in two days.

And now I’m here to tell you all about it.

When Julia takes a spring break trip to Florida, she’s not expecting romance. But an encounter with Peter Pan and a coded message suggests otherwise. When she meets Colton, Peter Pan’s actor, and receives a kiss in front of a castle, her world changes. But will a magical moment last when she returns to college and Colton stays in Florida? Straight On Till Morning is a whimsical romance about faith and fear colliding, hometown family and high adventure. It’s a clash of personalities. It’s a heartwarming tale of two young people’s faith in a God who can outdream them.

🥰 YESSS 🥰

  • PETER PAN
  • He wasn’t very good at letter writing, but he wrote to her anyway 🥰😭
  • His favorite color is green lol
  • YOUR BOY IN GREEN
  • “We call ourselves the Lost Boys” of blooming course you do.
  • bro is a serious procrastinator.
  • “People ask why is there suffering if God is good, but how could there be beauty like this if He isn’t?”
  • He said “Oh, the cleverness of me” hehehe I love that quote.
  • CHANLEY IS KATIE WELDON AND YOU CAN’T TELL ME OTHERWISE
  • The Christy Miller vibes are totally here. Colton is clearly Todd, making Julia Christy (ofc). Chanley is Katie. Brody is David. I SEE THE PARALLELS.
  • There is much Jesus. AMEN.
  • “One of my professors once told me the great stories aren’t supposed to help us escape reality. They’re to help us live in reality.”
  • Julia isn’t athletic and I love it. I feel you.
  • That moment when I finished the book and realized the logic of the title. It’s not just a random quote from Peter Pan, squad. IT IS PERFECT.
  • Colton wants to be a man of integrity for her 🥰😭😍 I love him so much…
  • She draws 😊
  • Jeremy!! (he’s not that important but I’m a fan of fictional characters named Jeremy hehe)
  • They’re both trying to be real. authentic. genuine. *melts*

😐 This Stuff Was Also Kind of There 😐

  • Is it just me, or is it a little bit too convenient for Julia to be between two brothers and Colton between two sisters?? Is that too perfect??
  • You can kinda tell Hannah Shoop hasn’t written oodles of books…it’s not like the writing style is horrible (it’s definitely better than what I would do), but it could be a tad more polished.
  • Where are the drawings?? Why don’t I get pictures of them??
  • Not a complaint about the book, but this would probably be much cooler if I had actually been to Disney.
  • Is anyone actually that perfect??
  • Sometimes, since this wasn’t a straight-up retelling of Peter Pan, the Peter Pan references felt a bit forced…am I really complaining about too much Peter Pan?? Somebody slap me…
  • From the blurb’s words, “a coded message”, idk why but I was expecting some spies or something. That was a tad misleading.

I don’t really have that many complaints 😉 It was a good book.

Coda

Not a review, per se, but some unconnected incoherent thoughts. Hope you enjoyed. *bows dramatically*

Always,

Ava ✨

  1. Okay… I already had this one on my tbr, but with Christy Miller parallels? PLEASE! Also… why have I never found your account before?? XD I think we were made to be book besties.

    1. THEY’RE THERE. I CAN SMELL THEM. But for real, Julia and Colton had major Christy/Todd vibes going. Down to Julia second-guessing and having breakdowns over not knowing what Todd – I mean Colton – is thinking.

Well, I’m rather new to the blogosphere, so there’s that. I think I started my blog at the end of May, so you haven’t had much time to blog-hop my direction. Glad to be your book bestie!!

    1. Glad to be an amusement!! I wasn’t sure how to organize my thoughts, and honestly book reviews are hard to do without spoilers. I’ve tried…
Since you enjoyed this one, maybe I’ll do more in the future!!

        1. I may have borrowed it from some other blogs…many thanks for their kind donation to my book reviews!! It wasn’t outright thievery though, fear not. I made it my own. I welcome you to do the same!!
