Birthstone Book Covers ~ Tag

I was tagged by both Betty at The Box of Wonder and Journey. So, I have seen this tag done for October, November, and now I’m doing December!!

To those of you who wonder why I didn’t do this last month, when I probably should have: look at the color of November’s birthstone. It’s…orange. How many orange books do you own?? How many orange books do you know of?? I’ll wager it’s not that many.

However. I have a great deal of blue books. You shall soon see just how many blue books I have encountered (well, obviously not all of them, but a nice little chunk).

Rules:

  • Mention the creator (Leslie at Books Are the New Black) and link back so she can see your post.
  • Pick 5+ book covers that match the current month’s Birthstone.
  • HAVE FUN!!!
  • Nominate people if you want!!!

🩵le Covers🩵

The Penderwicks at Last ~ Have you any idea how many times I read this series before discovering from a random individual on Goodreads that it’s essentially Little Women?? I was flabbergasted. And kind of sad, for some reason. But it makes a weird type of SENSE.

The Heartwood Crown ~ This trilogy is actually pretty great. It was different than I expected. But read it just for Jason Wu. That kid is GOLD, I tell you. HE’S SO FUNNY AND HE HAS A UNICORN THAT’S NOT A UNICORN. What’s not to love??

Glass Across the Sea ~ I adore this book. Glass and light and classics and that cover. For thoughts, see this post.

Creed ~ I have had this book sitting by my bed for like, six months. I borrowed it from my friend and I don’t think she’s getting it back anytime soon. I had such expectations for this series, but it’s getting…boring. It doesn’t help that Creed is basically Acts and I just memorized the first 17 chapters of that. I could have quoted that one speech therein!!

Hybrid ~ Asian dystopian with gene alterations. IT’S WILD. I still haven’t finished the trilogy though 😬

Positively, Penelope ~ PEPPER BASHAM!! I liked Authentically, Izzy better, but it’s to be expected. That book was a book-lover’s dream.

The Wonderland Trials ~ This book, folks. It is magical. It held the position of my favorite book for quite some time. My copy is full of tabs in significant locations (mostly Chess spouting witticisms).

The Restitching of Camille DuLaine ~ I have actually not read this book yet. It’s set to be published sometime this spring. However, I adored the first book in this duology!! And can we admire that cover for a second, ladies and gents??

Calor ~ I own this book and the following two. I have for several months. AND FOR SOME REASON I STILL HAVEN’T FINISHED THE TRILOGY. What is wrong with me *sobs*

The Invisible Boy ~ So there’s this webcomic I adore, the Silver Eye, created by the marvelous Laura Hollingsworth. And the marvelous Miss Laura has a marvelous sister who has written two middle-grade novels. Of course I had to investigate. Anyway. The Invisible Boy, by Alyssa Hollingsworth.

The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion ~ Emma is delightful. Period. For more thoughts, see this post, and for quotes, see this one!!

A Time to Speak (10th Anniversary Edition) ~ Look Journey, isn’t it beautiful??!? (this is the book I thought of and wasn’t sure I could find a good picture of) The original is also blue, but this one is ✨beautiful✨

Nightfall ~ Listen, folks, I’m done with my brief Keeper phase. It was fun while it lasted. Shannon doesn’t know how to finish things and NOTHING EVER HAPPENS. For real. Each book, summarized: Sophie and company get together to argue about what they will and won’t do. Sophie runs off alone to do what they decided not to do. The squad follows her to try to defeat the baddies. Sophie develops ANOTHER new power. In the end, the baddies reveal something that changes everything and then we end on a cliffhanger. Oh and all the while Sophie is blushing and breathing and pulling out eyelashes and trying to decide whether she likes Fitz or Keefe. MAKE UP YOUR MIND.

I’m sorry. Also the fact that Shannon included gender agendas in the most recent book is not okay.

But ummm…the covers are always gorgeous??

The Immortal Abyss ~ that sparkley cover is splendid. I never truly got into this duology, but that’s probably just me.

A Lady’s Guide to Marvel’s and Misadventure ~ This was a simply marvelous book. It’s been a while since I read it, but it was so much fun.

Starring Me ~ The second book in a trilogy. They’re extremely fun (I’ve only read the last one once though for some reason); kind of contemporary Biblical retellings. The first book, First Date, is Esther, while this one is the account of Isaac and Rebekah. The characters are so much fun. I recommend 🙃

Heart of a Royal ~ Read this book for Thoraben. I beg you. He is a cinnamon roll. Or also read it if you like contemporary princess novels. The FMC is neither a princess nor a commoner. Wild, isn’t it.

Wishtress ~ That ending, am I right?? NADINE I LOVE YOU BUT WHYYYY. Great winter read.

The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey ~ Who else adores the Mysterious Benedict Society?? These kids are precious.

Unraveling ~ More Sara Ella!! These covers are gorgeous. I have an interesting relationship with this trilogy. Like, it’s beautiful, but also..idk. That love triangle though!! *dies*

The Van Gogh Deception ~ Splendid middle-grade mystery. The main character has amnesia. I don’t recommend reading book two first (why are you looking at me like that?? Of course I didn’t read the second book first. That would be ridiculous. I laugh at your suspicions) since then you’ll know who he is the entire time and that kind of ruins the plot.

When preparing for this post, I already had nine books with blue covers in my storage. But what if they weren’t the best books to represent my reading?? After going through my own shelves and my Goodreads shelves, I ended up with…what you see above. Who am I to leave out a good book?? I actually left a few out. One must draw the line somewhere!!

Honorable mention to My Favorite Color is Your Something Blue. It’s not entirely blue, but it has blue in the title. It tried. Very hard.

As for tags, I think I’ll just leave this one open to whoever cares to snurch it from me. You have my permission!!

I do believe that is all I have for you today. Cheers!!

Always,

Ava 🩵

  1. What a fun post! I can’t believe you found all these books, that’s incredible!

…and I have about a thousand new books piled on my tbr!😂

    Have a wonderful day!☀️

    1. They truly are. Especially all lined up like that so you can marvel at their general blueness as a complete unit. I’m considering rearranging my bookshelf by colour; thoughts??

        1. Gah!! I forgot you would be rifling through comments!! You saw nothing!!!

I said considering it (or I think I did), not that I actually would…it’s nice for a change of pace. What is life without a rearranging bookshelf session here and there.

      1. I do indeed disapprove. I disapprove severely!!!!!! I do like to organize my bookshelf by…. well, prettiness? If this spine looks good to this spine, then I shall put it by that spine. (but whatever happens I will NEVER split up series!!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!!!!)

My dear, I am afraid I saw everything….

And I shall never be able to forget…..

        XD

    1. Doesn’t it?? All the books in that trilogy do. Unraveling almost didn’t make it to the final post, but its cover was far too gorgeous to be left out.

      And thank you!! 🥰

  2. Those covers are gorgeous, Ava!!! (And I’m loving all the blue lol. XD It’s one of myf avorite colors!!!!!!!) And I am with Lola. Thank you for all the thousands of books you’ve added to my already overflowing TBR. XD I am half very thankful and also half irritated because now MY TBR IS ALREADY SO OVERFLOWING!!! Ah well, I suppose I’ll at least never run out of books to read? lol.

And alas. I fear I am with you on the Keeper series. I am done with my brief Keeper phase as well. I loved the world so much and all the powers and food were all so cool!!! But the plot feels a bit…. dragged out by now?? *sighs* Alas. The Book of Stolen Dreams is a good book though!!! (It’s middle-grade fantasy. And it has a blue cover, depending on which edition you read lol. XD)

And WHAT NO YOU READ BOOK TWO OF A SERIES FIRST?!?!?!

*stares at you in great shock*

*steps back and clutches my bookworm heart*

    How could you!!!!

And yes, Emma M. Lion is THE BEST!!! I’m currently reading The Q right now!! I LOVE Quincy St. Claire!!!! And Arch!!!! And I am very much hooked!!!!!

    1. Honestly I didn’t mean for this to turn into a book rec post, but I suppose it’s an occupational hazard. I’m a bookish blogger, it goes with the territory. I don’t really have a solid TBR, actually. I should write all these down someplace. Better a long list than a short one!! Imagine running out of books to read *shudders*

KotLC was really cool to start out with, but it’s just too long and repetitive at this point. And every single book is way over a normal page count. What middle-grader is really going to read six hundred pages to discover that THERE’S NOTHING WORTH IT AT THE END, JUST ANOTHER CLIFF-HANGER??!? I haven’t read the most recent one and don’t think I will. I wish I had just read the first one, like my friend. The world is still beautiful for her, she’s still team Fitzphie, she doesn’t hate random characters or cliff-hangers…alas.

*laughs nervously* I can explain!! It was an accident!! I was at a Barnes and Noble bookstore, perusing their selection and taking pictures of cool books to get from the library later!! Somehow I ended up with book two and read it all, not realizing it was book two. I robbed myself of that first read-through for the first one even though it was my first read through *sobs* I’m still kind of sad about that…

I’ve also read a trilogy backwards. That wasn’t my fault either.

YES YOU’RE READING THE Q!!!! Well, have read at this point. Journey needs to read it next. *glances Journey’s direction*

      1. Running out of books to read? IS THIS A THING?? *Gasps with horror*

I used to read books all out of order. I read Harry Potter 6 first. Horrifying, I know. I had no idea what was happening. (I was also six years old, so a lot of things completely baffled me and went over my head.)

I WANT TO READ IT SO BADLY!!! I have not yet been able to aquire it. When I do I shall read it and (I’m sure) love it and it will be amazing. For now I shall have to wistfully read review posts and gaze at the cover. I DID win a 20 dollar gift card to Barnes and Noble though. . . I wonder if I could get that. . .
But I also really want to get Glass Across the Sea!! I NEED my own copy!! Too many options. . .

      2. Indeed!!! MUch better to have an endless list than to run out!!! Much much better!!!! And yes, I agree with you on KOTLC!! I loved the world so much!!! (And, lol, used to have the biggest character crush on one of the characters. XD) But especially with book ten just getting delayed over and over and over again, I’ve…. honestly just given up at this point.

Ohhhh you have a lucky friend indeed. 😭 She has no clue how annoying the love triangle gets at the end…..

AND NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is absolutely tragic. I cannot believe it. I have sometimes almost bought book two at a bookstore, but I always triple-quadruple check the back blurb and the tag because usually it shall mention if it is in a series!!!!!!

AND YES I HAVE READ THE Q!!!! BETH BROWER HOW COULD YOUUUUUUUUUU….. (wails and sobs)

I will never forgive you, Beth Brower. Never.

Well…. I might once you publish Emma M Lion number nine. XD

  3. Oooh these book covers look absolutely stunning! You found all these books, some of which i’ve read and liked..
…and I have about a thousand new books piled on my tbr. my TBR is already overflowing. and well. glad to have met a book worm like you…

    1. Yay!! Someone with similar taste. Which ones have you read before??

My pleasure to be of service to your TBR *bows* It is my mission to force all I come into contact with into reading a book or two. Or seven 😉

  4. Huzzah, the book covers post!! I was going to say long awaited but it wasn’t, really, because I only had to wait like two days. You were shockingly prompt, unlike me who waited a month. . .
I knew Glass would make it on here! This makes me so pleased. And the Wonderland Trials of course. Hybrid looks fascinating. I am always questing for dystopian that isn’t drivel. THE TIME TO DIE FANCY EDITION!!! It’s SO pretty!! 😍😍😍 I’ve wanted to read Alyssa’s books ever since I became obsessed with TSE. She has a new fantasy book coming out sometime! It makes me very pleased.
I feel much the same way about KOTLC. It was a phase, it is over now. Please end the series already, Shannon. We beggeth thee. I have not read book 9.5 but have heard questionable things about it. (Also how does Sophie even have any eyelashes left in her head???)
And haha, the last one! It fits beautifully. We will ignore its inherent pink-ness.

    1. Huzzah indeed. Technically, I did wait about a month from when I was first tagged, so…long awaited works. I had a lot of free time at my grandparents’ house over Thanksgiving and spent way too much time messing with this post, outlining other posts, and exchanging comments with both you and Issabelle.

Ofc Glass and Wonderland made it. Wonderland is basically the model of a blue book. Hybrid is indeed fascinating. It’s truly shocking that I still haven’t finished that trilogy. I NEED ANSWERS. I am truly looking forward to All the Queen’s Curses. However, I see we must wait until August of next year.

It was a glorious few months of KOTLC. I’m not going back though. My poor journal *laughs mischievously* It was subjected to several agonized rants about the triangle. YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO TELL FITZ THAT YOU HAD JUST KISSED KEEFE FOR REAL SOPHIE??!? You’re right; I honestly don’t know how she still has eyelashes. It sounds painful too!!

It was too good of a book to leave off, especially with such a blue title.

    2. I’m currently going through my KOTLC phase. I have this thing where I HAVE to finish book/book series if I start it and the eyelash question is so true. It sounds so painful.

  5. Wow!! You are on it!! This post is stunning. I love how many covers you found and all the descriptions of them! I read the first Keeper of the Lost Cities and enjoyed it! I need to continue the series since I have them all. Great post!! 🙂

    1. Thanks!! I got a little bit carried away with it 😂 And ofc, blue is my favorite colour, so there’s that. Thanks for making such a fun tag!!

  6. Lovely post Ava! I read it with Goodreads open in the other tab so I could look up all your titles! Your picks are quite gorgeous and I was so glad to see Emma M. Lion included!!

I have a plethora of tags to fill out, but I may snurch this one some time in the future!!

    1. That’s so fun!!! Emma M. Lion insisted on being included, whether or not I actually had space for her (kidding, of course I’ll always have space for our darling Emma).

Oh, do feel free to snurch. Whenever you wish, for I only live to serve *bows*
