Has August ever been a month. Wow.
Hey guys, and welcome back to month recaps with Ava!! Let’s get started!!
Important Happenings
- got a picture with Spider-Man
- saw Spider-Man (defining life experience)
- deep cleaned my room in preparation for leaving for like, ever.
- wore a beanie that I found while cleaning (is it too early for beanies?? yes. did I let that stop me?? absolutely not.
- put cicada shells in my hair because–because why not.
- took enough photos of our cat to make an entire high-quality celebrity-level photo spread in a magazine.
- turned into a raccoon, then a raven, which I apparently still am.
- cried. endings and goodbyes are the worst 🥺🥺🥺
- finished a scrapbook.
- got a mAgAzInEeEeEe in the mail; my very own copy of the Daisy Chain to keep forever and always!!!
- found a blazer while cleaning and wore it around the house for a day.
- was given a fruit basket!! with so many kiwis in it!! I’m still waiting for them to be ripe 😭
- ate a milkshake for breakfast while waiting for my last library shift to begin.
- moved in to COLLEGE. AHHHHHHHHH.
- said goodbye to my family; I’m an orphan now 😔 (jk jk ofc)
- tasted a starfruit for the first time
- made it to the very front of the freshman class photo; HAHAHAHAA I’M IN THE FRONT OF A PHOTO OF HUNDREDS OF PEOPLES
- discovered that college is actually a very strenuous undertaking. four flights of stairs >5 times per day plus power walking from one corner of campus to the other in an effort to make it to Spanish class on time after chapel is no joke.
- somehow formed a mini-squad of friends (this is a small miracle, for I haven’t had to start from square one with friends for years. maybe ever)
- found my assigned seat for chapel, it’s in the very middle of the row and thus I have to climb over eleven people to get there every Wednesday and Thursday.
- climbed a tree, startled a boy or five; y’know, the usual Monday.
- started classes!! classroom dynamics are weird to this homeschool kid.
- have been told time after time that my brother and I (he’s also on my campus) look related, but one individual told me we don’t look related (he thought we were dating 👀).
- have also been told that I can’t be the main character and also that I’m basic (just because I like vanilla ice cream smh) *hairflip* I most certainly am not basic, thank you very much, and I’ll be the main character if I so choose.
- ended up on the stage singing my first Sunday at a church.
Listening To

- Guilty As Charged ~ Jenna Raine *fangirls unintelligably* you know when you lock onto a song and don’t let it go for a week or three and it becomes your entire personality?? Yeah that’s where I was at.
- Used To Pray ~ Jenna Raine And then I made this song my theme song for the past week or so of my life, my intro to college. I used to pray for these days…
- So Far, So Good ~ Jenna Raine 🎶 so far, so good, I’m cautiously optimistic… 🎶oh did I mention that Jenna Raine released a new album, hence the obsession?? 😀
- TRY HARD ~ Allison Eide this song hits.
- Fictional ~ Khloe Rose basically every bookworm’s problems on the daily.
- The Ballad of Lucy Gray Baird haunting, I tell you.
- Happy Song ~ John Michael Howell this fellow is so relatable.
- Hypothetically ~ John Michael Howell
- miss you, love you ~ Dalton Maudlin far too real, especially considering how I just moved away from all my family, friends, enemies, etc.
Reading
Ah, the My Favorite Color books…they’re so cute and light and seasonal and aahhh I love them so much!! Very much comfort rereads.
I also read Julius Caesar this month, and that was quite the experience. I really only read it because Emma Vol. 9 should come out later this year, and Emma gets to play a part in St. Crispian’s annual performance of the play. I figured I better be caught up so I can catch all the nuances!!

Coda
August has been insane. The end of that college countdown started getting uncomfortably close, despite it still feeling like a game of pretend. I deep-cleaned my room and it’s now cleaner than it’s ever been while in my possession. I said goodbye to my bestie and my boyfriend (tears were shed on both accounts). I had to watch my parents and siblings walk away from me. I had to figure out how to be an adult when I still felt like a kid.
Scratch that, I’m still figuring that one out. Any tips??
Anyway, I can’t keep up the once per week posting schedule anymore. I have more homework and social obligations to keep up with than I have the mental capacity for, it seems. So don’t expect a normal posting schedule from me in the coming months. The goal is two per month, with an approximated one every other week, but I still haven’t gotten a taste of a real homework load yet (it’s been syllabus week around these here parts 🤠) so shouldn’t promise anything.
Thanks for joining me for this new chapter of my journey!!
Always,
Ava 🏫

As for college, all the goodbye stuff, the best way to avoid it is to go to college in state 🗣️🗣️🗣️
