Hey, welcome back!!
Today starts a new series of posts I hope to implement–that of the monthly wrap-up post. I’ve always enjoyed other people’s month-in-review posts, but was too lazy to try it out myself. What with college creeping up on me and my recent ghosting streak, I think it’d be splendid to start a series of un-creative, guaranteed one-per-month-at-the-very-least posts.
So, here we go!! (please disregard the fact that we’re over a week into July now; you saw nothing 😶🌫️)
Important Happenings
- I WENT TO CAMP Y’ALL AND MY TEAM WASN’T EVEN LAST THIS TIME. It was my last year before I age out, and a good time was had by all. Leaving was literally so sad bc I knew I wouldn’t be back 😔 stayed up until two in the morning on the last night because–why shouldn’t I.
- had chocolate ice cream on National Chocolate Ice Cream day
- totally looted a shoe store
- played disc golf against my will (but y’all, I’m getting better at it :D)
- HAD 230+ PEOPLES IN THE LIBRARY SIMULTANEOUSLY AHHHHHH
- discovered that Elijah Queen is engaged now; mind is officially blown
- tried to build a miniature of London, but after multiple hours was only half-way done so packed up all the pieces and haven’t touched it since.
- went to college orientation. Really made the entire thing seem a lot more real and closer than is perhaps comfortable. also met my roommate; we’re probably way too similar considering our first in-person conversation was about Emily of New Moon. Got to sleep in the dorms, but not in the one we’ll be in bc THEY NEVER TOLD US ABOUT HOW TO CHOOSE HOUSING so we’re on the literal fourth floor of the other dorm that has an unspecified location (aka I have no idea where it is).
- came up with names for up to six of my future children (if none of them have red hair imma crash out)
- started watching Marvel movies again and AAHHHHH POOR LIL PETER
- consumed far too many string cheeses
- wrote a poem about a fellow Substacker and brought literal tears to her eyes.
- went swimming and saw fireworks with my bestie, Madi.
Listening To

- Miracle ~ for King & Country Y’ALL THEY’RE MAKING MUSIC AGAIN AAAAHHHHH
- Devil in the Water ~ Hailey Hutcheson aaaahhhh this song is so good!! I heard someone mention Hailey Hutcheson while at camp and investigated when I got home. No regrets; 10/10
- Butterflies ~ Kacey Musgrave this song is just so summery and gorgeous and sweet and innocent–
- la di da ~ Avery Anna such a vibe y’all.
- lovesick ~ Avery Anna somehow I managed to play this at least four days in a row 👀
- Downstairs ~ Twenty One Pilots Journey mentioned that Owl City should definitely do a cover of this song, and I think she’s right. It’s just got those vibes.
- Give Up On Love ~ Joseph O’Brien I will always be thankful for Spotify’s Release Radar, even when it doesn’t work the way I want it to, for it gives me such gems as this.
Reading
I read eleven books this past month, which is…actually the same amount I read the month before that XD
I struggled immensely to find a way to include all the covers of said eleven books and spent over twenty minutes fighting Canva and emerged with a subpar collage. The struggle is all too real, I’m afraid, for a amateur user of Canva with a free account who’s trying to wrangle book covers into a graphic. I then had a moment of inspiration after a good night’s sleep and remembered image carousels are a thing.
Shoutout to the Bachelor and the Bride for the best plot twist, the Blue Castle for being the most nostalgic despite never having read it before, and the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows for being the best nonfiction title of the year thus far.
All four and five star reads here, folks!! I have impeccable taste 💅

Coda
I hope all y’all’s June was as good as mine, and that your July is off to a great start!! Have you read any of the books I read this past month?? Any song recommendations?? Opinions on off-brand miniature lego Londons?? Coping strategies for wrangling Canva??
If so, do tell 😊
Always,
Ava 🔆
p.s. also many many thanks to the Humorous Bookworm for lending me her monthly-wrapup post format unbeknownst to her. she’s very accommodating 👀

This is so fun!!!!!!!!! I love reading these months in review posts. XDD And I read The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows this month too! It was a really great read! (And all of the woooords!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I simply adore the word ringlorn. Do you have a favorite word from that book??) And also Emily’s Quest! Which I… did not like as much as the other books because Emily is all grown up and for some reason that makes me sad. XD Also, I dislike Dean. Also, that letter is so pretty!!! (And is that a page from the Mysterious Benedict Society I see? XD) My letters are always just a chaotic jumble of many letters and sketches and stickers.
Also, chocolate ice cream on National Chocolate Ice Cream Day sounds amazing!!!!
I love reading them too, which is why I finally worked up the nerve to try them for myself!! Ooh, you did?? I rather enjoyed it. My favorite word…I know I wrote it down somewhere, but I can’t remember what it actually was. Google tells me ’twas looseleft. You have every right to dislike Dean. I dislike him more and more the older I get. He had no right to be messing around with a literal child *shudders* I was so proud of that letter!! ‘Twas for Journey. Not all my letters are that aesthetic, but that one was 😊 and…yeah, that was a page from the Mysterious Benedict Society. I once found the most beat-up copy to ever exist upon this planet, and I promptly snagged it and dissected it for projects. Like book-paper-roses!! and letters XD I usually don’t like chocolate ice cream, but I did enjoy the reason to eat sugar 😁
A MONTH IN REVIEW POST, HUZZAH!! I have a fun time writing these. I can just ramble on about books I read without being expected to write a proper review and attempt to foist music on people (I am so pleased you agree about Downstairs. Tis a very Adam Young song methinks). And lettterrssssss. *Gazes upon it fondly* thank you for blacking out my current address so that no one hunts me down once they find out which characters I have killed off ruthlessly. 😅
We look forward to monthly review posts, twas absolutely lovely.
I adore Month in Review posts and your was so fun to read!!
It sounds like you had a very full and fun month!!
I took a screenshot of your song recs for later😉 have you ever heard High Adventure from the Aladdin musical? It’s so fun!!!
I would love to hear all your thoughts about The Blue Castle, its such a good story❤️
